Tennis Elbow
Pain on the outer elbow from overuse of the forearm muscles - you don't need to play tennis.
About this condition
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is caused by overload of the tendons that attach to the outer bony point of the elbow. Despite the name, it affects far more non-tennis players - anyone who does repetitive gripping, twisting, or lifting with the forearm. Common in builders, painters, plumbers, and computer users. It responds well to conservative treatment.
Common symptoms
- Pain on the outer side of the elbow
- Weakness when gripping or lifting
- Pain when extending the wrist against resistance
- Tenderness directly over the lateral epicondyle
- Worsening with activities like turning a door handle or pouring a kettle
