Sports therapy in Bournemouth and Dorset

Support for sport, exercise, work, and everyday movement

Sports therapy uses manual and exercise-based methods to assess and support musculoskeletal problems. You do not need to be a professional athlete. Our sports therapists work with active people, recreational gym users, and people managing movement changes, repetitive strain, or an injury.

Your appointment starts with your symptoms, health history, activity, and goals. We then agree practical next steps, which may include treatment, rehabilitation exercises, loading advice, or referral to another healthcare professional when that is more appropriate.

For active people

Support for athletes, runners, gym users, and people returning to activity after an injury.

Not just sport

Sports therapy can also consider posture, repetitive strain, and everyday muscle or joint concerns.

A plan that adapts

Treatment and exercises are adjusted around your symptoms, response, routine, and goals.

Our sports therapy process

Assessment that looks beyond the painful area

Symptoms can be affected by movement, strength, flexibility, stability, training load, and how different parts of the body work together. Your practitioner will consider the wider picture rather than assuming the most painful spot is the only area involved.

Your assessment may include:

  • Pain and symptom behaviour
  • Flexibility and range of movement
  • Joint stability
  • Muscle strength and balance
  • Movement and biomechanics
  • Activity, training, and recovery load

Treatment

Hands-on care with clear next steps

Once your practitioner has completed the assessment, they will explain what they have found and discuss suitable treatment. This may include soft-tissue work, joint mobilisation, postural advice, stretching, or exercise-based support.

Treatment is adapted to your symptoms and comfort. If your needs are better suited to osteopathy, chiropractic care, sports massage, medical assessment, or another service, we will explain that honestly.

Rehabilitation

Build back towards the activities you value

Rehabilitation may start with simple, manageable exercises and progress as your strength, control, confidence, and tolerance improve. Your practitioner can explain how to load the area between appointments and how to adapt activity while you recover.

Exercises may use resistance bands, foam rollers, kettlebells, balance equipment, or your own body weight. The length and structure of a rehabilitation plan depends on your symptoms, assessment, and goals.
