Treatment for training, recovery, and everyday movement

Sports massage is tailored around your body, activity, and goals. It can help you manage muscular tension, prepare for activity, or support recovery after training and sport.

You do not need to be a professional athlete to benefit. Our practitioners work with runners, gym users, recreational sportspeople, and people whose everyday activities leave them feeling tight or uncomfortable.

Every appointment begins with a conversation about what you need. We can arrange a one-off session or discuss ongoing appointments if regular support would be useful.

Targeted support

Treatment focuses on the areas and movements that matter to you, whether you are training, recovering, or managing everyday tension.

Pressure that adapts

Your practitioner starts from a comfortable level and adjusts pressure and technique around your response throughout the appointment.

For active and everyday bodies

Sports massage is not only for competitive athletes. It can also suit runners, gym users, recreational sportspeople, and people with activity-related tightness.

Clear next steps

You will have time to discuss recovery, movement, and whether another SoCo Therapies service would better match your needs.

How treatment works

A focused massage planned around you

Your practitioner may focus on particular areas depending on your symptoms, training load, movement, and treatment goals. Pressure starts gently and is increased only when appropriate for you.

Techniques can include focused soft-tissue massage, stretching, and work through areas of muscular tightness. If your main concern is lower back pain, you can also read our guide to lower back pain. For a wider injury assessment and rehabilitation plan, explore Sports Therapy.

Sports massage can be combined with other treatment routes where appropriate. You can compare it with Deep Tissue Massage or ask the clinic whether dry cupping may be suitable as part of your appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Sports massage FAQs

What is sports massage?

+

Sports massage is a tailored soft-tissue treatment for muscles and the surrounding tissues. It can support recovery, movement, and comfort for athletes, active people, and anyone managing muscular tension or everyday aches.

How does sports massage work?

+

Your practitioner focuses on the areas that match your symptoms, activity, and goals. Pressure starts at a comfortable level and is adjusted as needed, using techniques such as massage, stretching, and focused work through tight or sensitive areas.

Can sports massage help with injury rehabilitation?

+

Sports massage may form part of a wider recovery plan for some muscular and sports-related problems. Your practitioner will assess what you need and explain when sports therapy, another treatment, or medical assessment would be more appropriate.

How painful is a sports massage?

+

Sports massage can feel more focused or intense than a relaxation massage, but unbearable pain is not the aim. Your practitioner will check your comfort and adapt the pressure. Tell them straight away if anything feels too much.

Will a sports massage get rid of knots?

+

Sports massage may help ease the feeling of tight or knotted muscles, but there is no guaranteed one-session solution. Your practitioner will discuss the likely contributing factors and suggest appropriate treatment, movement, or recovery advice.

How often should I get a sports massage?

+

There is no fixed schedule that suits everyone. Frequency depends on your symptoms, training or activity, recovery, and goals. Your practitioner can help you decide whether a one-off appointment or ongoing sessions make sense.

What should I expect after a sports massage?

+

You may feel more relaxed or mobile, and some treated areas can feel tender for a short time. Drink water, rest if needed, and follow the aftercare advice from your practitioner. Contact the clinic or seek appropriate medical advice if you notice unexpected or concerning symptoms.

Do I have to take my clothes off for a sports massage?

+

Your practitioner will explain what clothing needs to be adjusted for the area being treated and will protect your privacy throughout. Loose clothing, such as shorts and a T-shirt, can be practical. You only remove what is needed for the treatment, with appropriate draping.

Kind words from our clients

Google reviews
“I've been suffering with shoulder aches caused by sitting at a computer for too long. After 3 sessions with Joanna the aches have gone and I feel I'm sitting/standing straighter again due to less rounding of my shoulders. Joanna does a firm deep massage which is highly effective. Strongly recommended.”
