Ankle Sprain
Stretched or torn ankle ligaments from rolling or twisting the ankle.
About this condition
Ankle sprains are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries. They occur when the foot twists suddenly, overstretching the ligaments - most often on the outer ankle. While many sprains are mild and settle quickly, inadequately rehabilitated sprains frequently lead to chronic instability and recurrent injuries.
Common symptoms
- Pain and tenderness around the ankle
- Swelling and bruising
- Difficulty bearing weight
- Instability when walking on uneven ground
- Stiffness after rest
