What is an Osteopath?

At SoCo Therapies, our team of highly trained osteopaths specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal issues through the use of manual therapy techniques. Osteopathy is a form of holistic healthcare that focuses on the body's musculoskeletal system and its interconnectedness with other systems in the body.

Our osteopaths use a variety of techniques to help alleviate pain and discomfort in the body. These techniques include soft tissue massage, joint articulation, muscle energy techniques, and dry needling, among others. By manipulating and mobilizing the body's tissues and joints, our osteopaths can help improve joint mobility, reduce pain and inflammation, and promote overall wellness.

Whether you're dealing with a chronic condition or a recent injury, our team of osteopaths is here to help. So if you're experiencing discomfort in your body, don't hesitate to reach out to us and schedule an appointment.

FAQs

How many treatments will I need?

Every injury or complaint is unique, making it difficult to estimate a general timeframe for recovery. After the first treatment, we can provide a more accurate prognosis and discuss with you our expectations for your recovery. Generally, the longer you have been experiencing the problem, the longer it may take to resolve it.

For this reason, we encourage patients to seek treatment as soon as possible to increase the likelihood of a faster and more complete recovery.

What should I wear?

We may request patients to change into their underwear for a comprehensive assessment during treatment, but we understand that some patients may feel uncomfortable with this. To respect your privacy, each of our clinical rooms is equipped with a curtained changing area and we can provide towels if needed. If you prefer to wear a strappy top or sports bra (one that can be undone at the back is preferred) or even be treated fully clothed, we can adapt our techniques accordingly.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

You do not require a referral to schedule an appointment with us. As qualified primary healthcare practitioners, our osteopaths are able to diagnose musculoskeletal issues and develop treatment plans accordingly without the need for a referral from another healthcare provider.

I have private medical insurance. Can you treat me?

Please contact us to discuss if we accept your private medical insurance as each policy may vary. We understand that insurance policies can be complex, but we are happy to help you navigate the process.

How long are appointments?

A standard initial appointment with us lasts for approximately 40 minutes, although we do schedule an hour to ensure we have enough time for a thorough case history, examination, and some treatment if needed. Follow-up appointments typically run for 20-30 minutes. However, there may be instances where we recommend longer appointments, and we will discuss this with you during the booking process. Additionally, we provide free 15-minute consultations to assess the suitability of treatment for your condition.

Do you treat under 18s?

We do provide osteopathy services for patients of all ages. However, if you are seeking an appointment for a young child, we recommend contacting us beforehand to discuss the specifics and ensure the most appropriate treatment is provided.

What is the difference between an Osteopath and a Chiropractor?

Osteopaths and chiropractors have different approaches to treatment. Osteopaths take a more holistic approach, focusing on treating the body as a whole using techniques such as soft tissue mobilization. On the other hand, chiropractors primarily use adjustments to correct joint misalignments.
